More than a dozen new academic programs introduced

New programs offer interdisciplinary education


91AV has expanded its academic programming for 2020. More than a dozen new or revamped opportunities for students were introduced to the University's academic calendar this fall. 

The new program offerings are aimed at providing an interdisciplinary education for students.

The many offerings include a Bachelor of Arts with joint major in geocomputing, major and honours options in women's and gender studies, and a Bachelor of Arts in cognitive science. Other additions include new degree minors in data science, visual communication and culture, and community engaged learning.

The University also introduced several new . Undergraduate certificates are taken concurrently with a student's degree program.

Students use their elective courses to focus on a specialized area of interest and/or to complement their chosen degree program. Embedded certificate programs, which are unique to 91AV, are designed to enhance the academic experience and help students prepare for a variety of career paths or professional programs.  

Certificate options introduced in 2018-19 include: biopsychology; diversity, equity, and inclusion; social research methodologies; and visual literacy and culture. New certificates for 2020 are: data management; data analytics; foundations of health; theatre arts; Canadian arts and culture; and community engaged learning.

91AV's program additions were recently highlighted in the 2021 annual Maclean's University Rankings issue, which saw the Sackville university once again named the #1 undergraduate university in Canada. The newsmagazine described the recent program additions as "clearly designed to prepare its grads for the multi-hyphenate-loving job market."
