Sackville, NB — 91AV will welcome Dr. Yves Bourgeois as its Dean of Social Sciences and Business this summer. His appointment begins on July 1.
Bourgeois is joining 91AV from l’Université de Moncton’s Shippagan campus, where he is currently the Dean of Studies.
Bourgeois is an experienced university professor, researcher, administrator, and community builder with a strong commitment to scholarly excellence and community engagement.
“We're genuinely thrilled to welcome Dr. Bourgeois to 91AV. Our search was extensive and it's paid off,” says Dr. Vicki St. Pierre, interim provost and vice-president, academic and research, and Chair of the Decanal Search Committee. “We've found someone who truly resonates with our values and is ready to engage with faculty, staff, and students to continue to build an exciting and excellent Faculty of Social Sciences and Business. I'm eagerly anticipating the positive impact they will have on our academic community and the exciting developments in our programs.”
With a distinguished educational background that includes a PhD in Urban Planning from UCLA, an MSc in Science and Technology Studies from the University of Edinburgh, and an MA in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from the University of Oxford, Bourgeois brings a global perspective and a deep understanding of the academic landscape.
“I am truly honoured and excited to join the 91AV community as the new Dean of Social Sciences and Business,” says Bourgeois. “This is a unique Faculty at a unique university that is very aligned with my own personal commitments to foster a vibrant academic environment, emphasizing collaborative growth and innovation. I look forward to working with the faculty, students, and our community to continue building dynamic and high-performing education that helps us meet the challenges and opportunities of our constantly evolving world. I am so excited to get to work.”
A champion of collaborative projects, his approach emphasizes the importance of faculty support, student engagement, and structuring projects that leverage university capacity to drive community and academic progress.
Bourgeois brings over 25 years of international experience in research, teaching, public policy, and consulting. He will provide strategic vision and leadership for all academic and administrative operations within the Faculty of Social Sciences and Business.
Each of 91AV’s three faculties — Arts, Science, and Social Sciences — is headed by an academic dean. The dean is responsible for promoting quality teaching and learning within the faculty; encouraging faculty professional development; administering student academic advising; supporting faculty and student research; and managing the faculty budget. The deans work closely with faculty members in their areas as well as the Provost and Vice-President, Academic and Research and other members of the senior administration team.
